It seems that the Spanish Government has won another battle.

Now that Santa Margarida has lost the battle over the Canal System, it's not the turn of Empuriabrava to lose the plot, literally.
The argument over who owns what in the Canal stakes has been won by the Government, and now a part of your property if you live on the edge of the Canals, is now not yours.

The true extent of what will happen will come out in the next couple of months. If you have a property near the canal, then be aware of what could possible happen in the near future.

Many people in the area are unsure, but with rumours of no money being available to do anything because if the state of Spain's finances, not much will be done in the next few years or so.

How much does it cost - Tickets start from €9.00 for half a day up to €120 for a yearly season pass. Because AquaBrava closes after the summer it's advisable to check out your local tourist information for actual prices and great special deals. If your on holiday in Roses and have a spare few minutes or hours to hit the shops, you might be surprised to find that their are loads of shops to suit everyone from Fashion to Sports and Gifts to tobacco and more. One of the main streets in Roses a road back from the front, has lots of shops these include Biels Department Store, one of the most popular stores in Roses. They sell lots of great Gifts, Children's Toys and now across the street is Biels store for young kids. This is one top shop for designer clothing for children, not overpriced but a little above normal. They sell all the top brands of clothing from Tommy to Ralph Lauren and More.

Roses also has many gift shops selling everything from Swords and Weapons to Leather bags and Ceramics. Roses shopping district is split up into many streets, not accessible by car so it's very safe. Taking a boat trip from around the Roses, Santa Margarida and Empuriabrava area is very easy.

Not only is it cheap, from €13.oo per person, but it's also a great way of seeing this area from a different angle. The Cap de Creus natural coastline is breathtaking, and is now easy to do thanks to some great boat trips. The trips can take you from Empuriabrava, Santa Margarida and Roses over to Cadaques, the home of Salvador Dali and south along the coast to L'Estartit and L'Escala.

The boat trips dont take long, depending on which town you wish to visit. I persoannly would tkae the ride North to Cadaques, the boat ride is amazing, with some of the most beautiful coastline you will probably ever see in your life. Cadaques is home to Salavdor Dali's home, which can be visited but a small charge is required. Cadaques is a beautiful Catalan village, on entering the town from the sea, you can see why Dali and postcard manufacturers love this amazing town.

Their are four routes if you use the Mautilus Boat Trip, heres a quick guide.

Route 1 - Medes Islands Length: 1.15h. Route 2 - Medes Islands and Roca Forada Length: 1.30h. Route 3 - Sant Martí d'Empúries Length: 2.30h. Route 4 - Cadaqués and Cap de Creus Length: 5h.

Prices range from €1.oo for a baby up to €24.00 for an adult depending on which route you choose.

Castell Trinitat - Roses Costa Brava

It doesnt matter what age you are, Roses has some of the best places to see in the area.

The Citadel, which is located on the main road in and out of Roses is a must for anyone who loves history. The old buildings and especially the old church which can be dated back to the 5th century, is one of the most important ancient building in the area. The old church is still in use today for open air concerts and even weddings. The church of Santa Maria as it's known, and the surrounding buildings were abondoned in the 19th century, it's still in an amzing condition, but you can see how the more recent years have had an effect.

The El Far Lighthouse which was built in the late 19th century has just been recently restored, and is still in use to this day. The lighthouse stands below the Trinity Castle which was built around 1544 under the reign of Emporer Charles V.

A visit to any of these monuments is a must, but good walking shoes, sun cream and a drink are items advised to take with you.

Roses Costa Brava - Nightlife and Bars

Just because Roses is one of the biggest places for commercial fishing on the Costa Brava, does not mean that it doesnt have some excellent Bars and an even better Nightlife.
If your staying in the Roses area like Santa Margarida, their are plenty of Bars and Nightclubs to keep you going until the early hours. Santa Margarida, a haven for european tourists, has a great selection of nightlife to accomadate every age group, whether your 18 or 80 their is lots of things to do.

The Prestige Sant Marc in Santa Margarida, has some excellent nightlife for all ages. Having it's own dance hall and live msuic makes this great for families of all ages. Their are also Flamenco nights in the holiday seasons, with live music too.

Both Roses and Santa Margarida have a host of international bars to suite everyone, from German to English and the traditional Spanish bars too. Penny Lane is Santa Margarida is for the English, serving English food and beers. Make sure you check out the whole town, and a quick journey into Roses to see the nightlife is a must.

Roses is one of the Costa Bravas hidden gems. The town was originally a small fishing village, but since the 1960's, Roses has now developed into one of the regions most visted towns.
Nearby to the centre of Roses is, Santa Margarida, this is a small area, but growing rapidly every year, with canals, which have houses built around them, very similar to Empuriabrava
but not as big. Roses town centre has some great facilites, great shopping for gifts and also clothing and food. If your visiting the Emporda region, make sure you visit Roses and take in this great town.
